Keita Miyazaki – A Symbiotic Form, 2026 - Site-Specific Public Sculpture in Giudecca Island for the Venice
The exhibition ultimately extends beyond the MAO Museum in Ca Pesaro, activating a public art intervention at Crea Cantieri del
Contemporaneo, on Giudecca Island, curated by Pier Paolo Scelsi, Ilaria Cera, and Riccardo Freddo.
For this occasion, Keita Miyazaki presents a site-specific modular sculpture conceived for the Venetian context. Installed as a
public work facing Giudecca Island, the sculpture engages directly with the surrounding landscape and the industrial and symbolic
identity of the cantieri.
This work forms part of the artist’s ongoing investigation into modularity, transformation, and the relationship between form and
space. The modular sculpture has previously been exhibited in the gardens of the Emperor in Tokyo, and at the Museo Nazionale
Etrusco di Villa Giulia, where Miyazaki was invited to create a site-specific installation in the Roman nymphaeum, becoming the
first artist in the museum’s history to intervene in that space.
In Venice, the modules are reconfigured once again, generating a new sculptural arrangement that reflects the city’s layered
identity and its deep-rooted artisanal traditions. Presented during the Biennale within the Giudecca shipyards, the work stands as a
tribute to craftsmanship as a form of art, emphasizing making, building, and transformation as shared practices between artist and
artisan.
